matali crasset : nous avons oublié le pain en chemin

matali crasset’s exhibition “nous avons oublié le pain en chemin” at Galerie Philippe Valentin in collaboration with Galerie MICA x LAB summons the living. It is presented in three parts, taking up two gallery spaces, and materializes two recent readings by ecologists.

The first space invites you to explore the typology of the panetière: this architecture dedicated to sourdough bread, this living world, is a tribute to the “house microbiota”.
The panetière (paniero in Provençal), as we know it, has only existed since the 17th century. The earliest mention of it can be found in the municipal archives of Orange, dating back to 1620. On some panetières, the front is equipped with a door allowing the mistress of the house to bring in or take out the bread.

The second space recreates an ecologist’s office, housing 3 animal presence projects as an alternative to taxidermy: animal portraits painted with needlepoint by a highly skilled craftswoman…

Finally, in a third space, we’re invited to go behind the scenes to meet the Galerie MICA x LAB community: the high-caliber craftsmen who for many years have formed a genuine community around Michaël Cheneau: a way of working that’s situated and defends the local.
